Hlaing Thar Yar is a Burmese street and documentary photographer based in Yangon, Myanmar. His work plays with stylised framing, lighting and colours to evoke ideas of the fluidity of dreams of the impermanence of time. Since the military coup in Myanmar, Hlaing Thar Yar has turned his lens towards the social and political fallout of the popular uprising against the new dictatorship. His dreamlike images reflect on the uncertainty of the situation in his home city, and the state of unrest and instability that his country has been thrown into.

Hlaing Thar Yar’s work can be seen in the stories Eain Met and Defiance.

Due to the political situation in Myanmar the name Hlaing Thar Yar is an alias and this bio has been heavily redacted to remove any identifying information. All enquiries into licensing images or commissioning assignments should be emailed to saccaphoto@protonmail.com.
